Why We Use Biodegradable Glass ?

Biodegradable packaging in the cosmetic industry

Packaging plays a very important role in the cosmetic industry. Every brand knows that the package is the first thing that the consumers will see so they put a lot into it to making it worth it.

Choosing the right packaging for your product is not as easy as it seems. You have to put many things into consideration for the packaging to be appealing to the consumers. The shape of the product, the quality of the material used as well as the colour are some of the things we take into consideration.

One of the key areas that most brands do not take into consideration is the impact of their packaging on the environment. However, people are becoming more conscious of the need for practices that are sustainable for the environment. This is why it has become important not only to have attractive packaging for your cosmetic product but packaging that is also eco-friendly and sustainable. An example of such packaging is the true amber glass packaging that we use for our cosmetic scalp ointment formulas at Midnight Roots.

Soda Glass versus Amber Glass

Soda glass -also known as flint glass, is a transparent brown glass jar that a lot of cosmetic brands use to package their products. One of the main reasons why its used is because it is attractive to consumers who of course see the product before purchasing it. However, when it comes to environmental sustainability, true amber glass should be the option especially for the fact that it is also biodegradable.

Biodegradable means that it can decompose through the action of microorganisms on it. That is, they break it down into its original components without leaving any toxic substance behind.

One of the reasons why amber glass is better jars are better is because they protect the cosmetic products far more than soda glass. Cosmetic products are applied to the skin directly therefore they must always used safely, and stored in the best conditions for daily skin application. Ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sunlight can penetrate transparent glasses and cause what is known as photo-oxidation. Meaning, the light will break down the chemical constituent of the product, making them ineffective or they may even become toxic. Amber glass blocks out this light, preserving product quality.

Here is why we prefer Amber Glass

At Midnight Roots, our amber glass is 100% recyclable and biodegradable making it a perfect package for any cold-pressed based ointment product. It is one material that has all the benefits of eco-friendly in-house, natural cosmetic product workshop manufacturing, which is at the heart of our bespoke cosmetic culture. The brown melanin like colour contributes to its aesthetics and protects it from UV rays. And more importantly, we source for the best to make sure it is environmentally sustainable whilst maintaining it’s bespoke luxury quality.

There are over 5 trillion pieces of plastic floating in the ocean. This has led to global warming and climate change. The best thing to do is to encourage our customers to be aware of the need for eco-friendly practices by introducing earth friendly product manufacturing.
